I was also trying to understand WTF is happening here. Coal mine putting up wind farms to power themselves but it seems that they will have enough energy to put back on the grid as well if I understand correctly?

A coal mining company, building renewable energy, so that they can continue operations to mine for coal, which will then be sold to Eskom (most likely, at least the majority of it), only to be burnt again to produce energy.

They should just sell the renewable energy directly to Eskom and be done with it.
