I get the point of the article, has the sound of…. Please write a puff piece on why, once again, SA has to settle for less than first world countries. Why can’t we have both, speed and exposure? Let’s not forget reliability! Some of you’ll have become so used to being the frog in the pot that you are accepting so much less and saying thank you, even fighting and being insulting to people who asking valid questions. Article is well written but SA needs to do better! Unfotunately it seems we have to settle for less because journalism is dead and propaganda alive and well. We also have an excess of boiled frogs :/

The article stops short of actually saying what we DO need. SA needs every single town and village to have a reasonable cheap broadband connection.

Having 28 (or is it 54?) different broadband options in Rosebank and Clifton is utterly useless for a doctor in Prieska or a farmer 30km outside Noupoort. There are hundreds of villages all over the country which are either not connected at all or at best have only a weak, and intermittent, 3G service.

The IT sector in this country is far too “metro city” minded. For them anywhere past Roodepoort is basically a foreign country. Even their call centre people don’t even know that the Northern Cape is a province (and about 1/3 of the entire country’s land area).

The network executives need to get out of their private jets and take a slow scenic drive across the Karoo for a change of perspective.

Years ago I was saying that the rural areas don’t need post boxes, they need cellphone access. Now they need Internet access, and the simpler the better. The workers charging these phones on a building site last year also need water, sewage, electricity, roads, … , the rule of law, and MORE JOBS!!!

Rather stupid when rest of the world moves forward we be far behind. This guy should keep his stupid opinions to himself. So everything for mahala and those paying huge amount of money should be left with old tech. Its like saying we all must have feature button fones while rest of world is in 5G smartfones
